Beginning to look into the hesitation - one very common problem the TD5's suffer with is oil in the injector loom which seeps down to the ECU plug. The seal where the loom runs into the head can (and will) let oil past which manages to find its way down to where it terminates at the ECU. It's been over a year since we purchased our own 2.4 TDCi Duratorq 110 Defender and so far it's caused very few problems, the only jobs we've done are: Replaced the clutch (upgraded to the latest part number, see the video) Fitted a dog guard. Fitted a rad muff. Installed an Alpine radio. Carried out a Land Rover gear change technical bulletin. Have got a 1999 td5 defender and have owned it since April or so. Problem is, when start engine from cold, temp guage goes to halfway and then drops off to zero after 5 mins of driving. Heater blows nice and hot, pulls very well no problems whatsoever except the guage not responding. Changed the sensor twice, (new one from eBay, didn't fix Hi I'm on my 2nd TD5, couldn't cope without after I sold the last one! The old one had an airbag problem, where the back end dropped one side which would inflate when starting the car, but got it fixed as soon as this happened. Now this one has dropped completely at the back, both sides - happened last night.

hi, this happened to mine, tried new harness , pump, etc, it turned out to be the turbo waste gate actuator arm on top of turbo. its a common problem ive been told , it seizes and gives these symptoms. take the metal heat sheild off the turbo, you will see the arm on a pivot, soak in wd 40 and rock it to and fro to free it up. worth a try.mike.

Basic electrical fault finding is fairly simple as long as you follow a logical sequence. This list can be used top to bottom or visa versa using circuit diagram and a leadlight or multimeter. Check for a voltage at the fuse or power. feed to the unit. Check for voltage at the unit.
